USAID BRIDGE Public Works Program Opening Ceremony in Dilijan on September 16, 2009

USAID provided funding for the renovation works of Dilijan Kindergarten # 1 Kitchen Area. The project was recently completed and the official opening ceremony took place in Dilijan on September 16, 2009.

During general community meetings the CDC, mayor, and city council representatives all prioritized the Getapnya district kindergarten kitchen area renovation which will be serving several district young families. In January the Dilijan Municipality developed the idea and submitted the proposal to CHF for consideration.

Kindergarten #1 comprises 2 buildings (one storied and two-storied). The rooms of the kindergarten are big and comfortable for children. During the last few years the local government has renovated them. However, no renovation works were carried out in the kitchen area. It had very bad sewage and water system, there was no proper air conditioning and the walls and floor are partially demolished. The rooms located near the kitchen have never been renovated.
To solve the above mentioned problem, the community and the municipality proposed to renovate the kitchen area of the kindergarten and secure the Getapnya kindergarten with proper sanitary conditions. The municipality installed a heating system and partially renovated the roof, and will provide new equipment for the kitchen.
